DOEACC Bioinformatics 'A' Level Course
Bio-Informatics is the convergence of Information Technology and Life Sciences. Bio-Informatics is a fast growing discipline and has emerged as a cutting edge technology of the knowledge revolution.
India’s achievement and strategic advantages in Information Technology and Bio-technology have positioned the country to play a crucial role in the post genomic era. This would be ranging from analysis of genes and structure, defining metabolic pathways to identification and validation of drug target and classification of the natural resources based on genetic profiles. The applications of bio-informatics are in agriculture, medicine, environment protection and bio-diversity conservation that offer opportunities for overall sustainable development, most desirable for the 21ST century.

Eligibility
Any person with good IQ and logical ability is considered suitable for these courses. No minimum qualification is therefore, prescribed for this course. Masters, Graduates, Higher Secondary, and even Matriculates are accepted. As graduation is generally the minimum qualification prescribed for the posts of computer professionals in private sector, it is recommended that the participants planning to join this profession should have a good bachelor’s degree in any subject. Knowledge of mathematics is helpful in learning some language Courses and in Computer Aided Design courses. As the graduates with Mathematics, Statistics, Science, Operation Research, Commerce and Economics are generally found to be more logical in their approach, they are preferred as computer professionals in some of the organizations. In public sector organizations, graduates are accepted at lower levels and masters’ degree or an engineering degree is insisted for higher posts in the profession.
The Project
The aim of the project is to give the students an integrated experience in solving a real life problem by applying knowledge and skills gained on completion of theory papers in a course at a given Level. It provides an occasion for students to realize the importance of resource and time management, ownership of task, innovation and efficiency in task management. It also provides a good opportunity for students to build, enhance and sustain high levels of professional conduct and performance and evolves a problem solver frame of mind in the students. It is also felt that taking up the project by a student prepares him for a job in industry and elsewhere.
