Inauguration of the Capacity Building programme in IECT under the NECB-2.0 project
Kokrajhar Superintendent of Police Er. Thupe Prateek Vijay Kumar, IPS inaugurated the Capacity Building programme in IECT under the NECB-2.0 (North East Capacity Building) project through a one day awareness program on ‘Cyber Security & Emerging Technologies for School and College Students’ in its permanent campus at Titaguri, Kokrajhar on 16th March, 2022 (Wednesday). In his speech, given a brief about the various cyber threats and security measures along with brief ideas on IoT, smart devices, digital payment security , various social media platforms and also its pros and cons. Students were advised to be alert all the time more particularly while using smart devices, mobile apps etc.
The inaugural session began with the welcome address of Dr. Rana Sharma, Administrative Officer of NIELIT Guwahati who introduced the technical aspect of the programme. He said that it is an attempt of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India under a special scheme “Capacity Building in IECT including training in Digital Skillsets and Current Industry Demanding Technologies for various sections of NE states” under NECB-2.0 project and NIELIT Guwahati entrusted to skill a total 44,680 citizens across different sections of the society in Assam in a span of 2 (Two) years and accordingly NIELIT Guwahati launched the scheme at Kokrajhar.
Dr. Sharma also urged the different stakeholders of the society to take the free benefits of the MeitY’s ambitious initiatives by taking active participation and informed that the beneficiary may kindly contact Dr. Saurov Mahanta, STO/ Cordinator-NECB-2.0 of NIELIT Guwahati and various extension centres of NIELIT Guwahati in Assam.
In his speech, Dr. Bipul Roy, Scientist-C / Incharge of NIELIT Kokrajhar EC said that the manifold directions that this NECB 2.0 project aims to capture in four categories i.e. in category one - promote awareness & training on Digital Inclusion to common citizens like Farmers, Women, Elderly, School and College students including dropouts students, secondly, In Category two is to impart job-oriented training to Graduates, Polytechnic students in areas like digital marketing, Solar Tech., IT apps, Security, AR / VR, Blockchain, IoT, ML, AI, Drone Tech., Multimedia etc, Under category 3, is for training as per job requirements of IT Firms/ MNC to improve employability and in category 4, it aims to capacity building of School Teachers on IECT Technologies etc.
The technical session was attended by Dr. Bipul Roy, Scientist ‘C’, Ms. Banti Das, Sc-C/ Deputy Director, Ms. Udipta Kalita, IT faculty and Dr. Rana Sharma, Administrative Officer of NIELIT.
In the day long program, various cyber threats through ATM, mobile, WhatsApp, social networking sites, online Shopping, mobile apps, digital payment etc. along with its safety tips and emerging technologies were covered. A cyber Security Awareness film also screened during the program followed by a quiz competition on cyber security awareness.
Prasanta Baruah, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, CIT, Kokrajhar was the chief guest at the valedictory session. In his closing speech, Baruah said that the cyber attacks are on the rise, and they are increasingly using various emerging technologies like ML, AI, IoT etc.
