NIELIT Kohima observes Swachhta Pakhwada 2019

11 February 2019

The concept of Swachh Bharat is an initiation to bring improvement in the general quality of life in rural areas by promoting cleanliness, hygiene and eliminating open defecation; to accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage, including toilets, waste disposal systems, cleanliness and safe and adequate drinking water supply and to achieve this by 2019 as a befitting tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 150th birth anniversary.

Proactively engaging to achieve this vision of Swachh Bharat, NEILIT Kohima began with a pledge to make a difference, to inspire change and has since been actively conducting various activities to spread the message of cleanliness and ensure litter prevention. During the fortnight cleanliness drive from February 01 to 15, 2019, a “Think Green Keep Clean” programme was initiated to promote an environmental friendly campus. As a part of this programme, the office Management and all teaching staff actively participate with the unified vision of Swachhta Pakhwada and contributed in the mass social work in their own best capacity removing unwanted plastics and wastes, pulling out weeds from flower beds and trimming overgrown vegetation across the campus. Students were directed to clean their own respective classrooms and even the lawns in the academic block to appreciate the value and importance of cleanliness and sanitation. They assisted the lab in-charges in removing unserviceable furniture and equipment from the Labs, and cleaned the toilets and common areas of academic and administration blocks and surrounding campus areas. The staff also purged obsolete record, files, etc from their respective cabins.

A Mass Tree Plantation Drive was organised on the last day with Prof. R. C. Gupta, Pro-Vice Chancellor as the Chief Guest with the focus to create awareness and combat the many environmental issues facing the country today. All the staff along with the student participated and different varieties of trees were successfully planted.
