National Workshop cum Seminar on GST

NIELIT Kohima and Nagaland University organizes workshop cum seminar on "Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India".

Indirect tax system has experienced a massive transformation with the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) which was implemented across the country from July 01, 2017. With the objective to assist the stakeholders in understanding the regulatory framework of GST, its implications and more specifically its impact to North Eastern States, NIELIT Kohima and the Department of Commerce, Nagaland University, Kohima campus jointly organized a two-day National Workshop cum Seminar on GST in India on May 22-23, 2018 at NIELIT Kohima. The seminar covered various facets of newly integrated Indirect Tax, i.e., GST and provided an opportunity to participants to enrich their knowledge as well as to interact with experts.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Prof. R. C. Gupta, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University expressed hope that the seminar would help the stakeholders in effectively implementing GST in the State. Shri. L. Lanuwabang, Director i/c, NIELIT Kohima also addressed the participants as the Guest of Honour during the inaugural programme. The resource persons during the seminar were from the Department of Taxes, Govt. of Nagaland.

The speakers highlighted the concepts related to GST- Indirect Tax System in India, GST- Regulatory Framework, Tax structure under GST, GSTN applications. Dwelling further, the speakers explained the Fiscal autonomy of NE States, GST Council and Consumer awareness on GST. In addition, they also emphasized on GST and its impact on Start- Ups, and also its impact on MSME sector, GST and Industry's expectations, GST and small retailer. The seminar was attended by academicians, students, government officials and other stakeholders.

 The workshop cum seminar concluded with a valedictory session where Shri. Wochamo Odyuo, Additional Commissioner of State Taxes, Nagaland addressed the gathering as the Guest of Honour and handed over the certificates to the participants.
