Communication Skills Lab

1. Course Objectives:

To identify speech sounds of English and know phonetic transcription and avoid common errors in pronunciation

To enable students to familiarize themselves with the use of tone and to enable them to speak with correct innovation.

To develop confidence among students to speak in  public and conquer fear

To make students to start things in pleasant note, to help think differently and to help students get familiarize with better words.

To expose them to variety of learner -friendly mode of language learning.

2. Course Outcomes: Upon successful completion of the course/Lab the students will be able to

CO1: familiarize themselves with the use of tone and to enable them to speak with correct innotation.

CO2: Students will be able to develop confidence among students to speak in public and conquer fear.

3. Main Equipment’s/Software’s Available

3.1 50 Dell desktops of core i7 Intel 3.60 connected to 24x7 1GBPS high-speed Internet connections. The Dell's Intel Core i7 Desktops are optimized for content streaming, with features like high-quality displays, advanced graphics, and fast connectivity.

3.2 Sony VPL-EW246 Video Projector: The VPL-EW246 is economically designed with a compact body filled with energy and cost saving features. In addition, a variety of network functions, rich inputs and outputs are available. This model is an excellent choice for education and business.It is a compact data projector that delivers exceptional image quality with eco-conscious features. In addition, a variety of network functions such as web control, network presentation and wireless presentation from mobile device can be performed.

3.3 Improspeak: It is a community of like-minded people who identify as “introverts wanting to become extroverts”.This introvert test is designed to help you better understand your own personality, especially in terms of your social interactions, thought processes, and relationships. Being an introvert isn’t just about preferring solitude over social gatherings; it’s a complex interplay of how you engage with the world, process thoughts, and relate to others. This test will explore various facets of introversion, including conversation ability, overthinking, social relationships, and your perspectives on both the past and present

3.4 IceBreaker: The app gives you hundreds of to keep the conversation flowing when you don’t know what to say. IceBreaker also allows you to share your cards on social media, so you can use this tool both online and in real life to overcome shyness and start great conversations!

 

3.5 Random Topics: Random Topics is an app that generates a random topic for conversation every time you want to practice, whether you’re by yourself or with other people. Once the topic is set, the app gives you a timer and text-to-speech features, so you can use it while you’re driving, cooking, jogging, etc. and you can check your speech later. You can skip topics you don’t like and even set a timer to change topics automatically. This way you will develop perfect time management and improvisation skills! 

3.6 SpeekoSpeeko works as a public speaking coach for your presentations, meetings, and interviews. You can start by recording your voice and setting a specific goal or category, Speeko gives you instant feedback on your pace, eloquence, filler words, intonation, and pausing. Once you’re done analysing the feedback the app provides a wide library of core speaking techniques and exercises to practice whenever you want!

  3. Role of intonation in speaking : effective use of various tones

  • Describing objects /situations /people etc
