About NCPUL

The National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Department of Higher Education, Government of India. It has been set up to promote, develop and propagate Urdu language. Council started its operation in Delhi on April 1, 1996. In its capacity as the National Nodal Agency for the promotion of the Urdu language NCPUL is the principal coordinating and monitoring authority for promotion of Urdu language and Urdu education.

The main objectives of NCPUL:

•   To promote, develop and propagate Urdu language.

•   To take action for making available in Urdu language the knowledge of scientific and technological development as well as knowledge of ideas evolved in the modern context.

•    To advise the Government of India on issues connected with Urdu language and having bearing on education as may be referred to it.

•    To undertake other projects for the promotion of Urdu language as may be deemed fit by the Council.

The main functions of NCPUL:

•    To undertake the production of literature in the Urdu language, including books on science and other branches of modern knowledge, the children's literature textbooks, reference works, encyclopaedia, dictionaries, etc.

•    To collect and evolve technical terms relating to various disciplines of knowledge in order to enrich the Urdu language.

•    To undertake and provide for publication of journals and periodicals in furtherance of its objects.

•    To arrange for the sale of publications and their exhibitions both inside and outside the country on from time to time.

•    To promote and help in development of computerization with a view to develop the Urdu language to meet the advanced technological requirements of the age.

•    To formulate/implement schemes and projects for the teaching of the Urdu language through the mediums of English and Hindi and  other Modern Indian Languages including, teaching through the correspondence courses.

•    To liaise with the State Governments and other agencies in matters relating to promotion and development of the Urdu language.

•    To provide financial assistance and guidance to Non-Government Organizations for propagation of the Urdu language.

•    To co-ordinate the activities of the state Urdu academies.

•    To obtain or accept subscriptions, donations, grants, gifts, devices and bequests from any person, corporation or institution in furtherance of the objectives of society.

•    To undertake such other activities as may be conducive to the aforesaid objects of the society.

One of the significant initiatives of the Council has been the transformation of Urdu speaking population into part of the employable technological workforce in the age of technology and computer. To make Urdu speaking boys and girls part of employable technology work force of India, NCPUL establishes Computer Applications, Business Accounting and Multilingual DTP Centres (CABA-MDTP) across the country. The CABA-MDTP programme is being executed by National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Chandigarh since 2004 and both the organizations have signed a MoU on 26th September 2012 valid for five years.

The MoU signed between NCPUL and NIELIT Chandigarh has provision of introducing skill oriented courses at NCPUL’s CABA-MTDP centres in Electronics Hardware Sector to further enhance employability for inclusive growth of the deprived segment of the society. In year 2014, one year course “Diploma in Repair of Electronic Appliances & Maintenance (DREAM)” has been launched at 50 NCPUL centres based in 5 states of Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. So far, 5428 students have been registered under this scheme and 1180 students have been awarded diploma on successful completion thereof.

The one year course “Diploma in Computer Applications, Business Accounting and Multilingual DTP (CABA-MDTP)” has been designed for transformation of Urdu speakers into productive human resource and making them part of the employable technological work force in the emerging Information Technology scenario and penetration of computer education to grass root level. The contents of the course have been enriched with programming techniques, skills for developing database applications, accounting package, web designing tools and Multilingual DTP. The contents have been designed  such that a wide range of career options are possible for an individual after completing the course. At present, about 450 CABA MDTP Centres are running in 194 Districts of 26 States. Every year, 25000 students approximately are enrolled at these centres to undergo IT Training. So far, around 1,36,525 students have been awarded diploma under this scheme. The course not only provides job opportunity for Urdu speaking people but also increases computer literacy rate of the country.

 

The one year course “Diploma in Repair of Electronic Appliances & Maintenance (DREAM)” aims to generate competent & skilled  technical manpower from marginalized social sector at grass root level as per industry domain requirements to understand repair and maintenance tips for Electronic Home Appliances, DTH systems’ installation, Solar Panel Installation,  assemble and maintain LED based lighting products. This will ultimately enhance the prospects of rapidly growing employability in Electronics Hardware Sector in rural areas which are the backbone of the nation. There will be number of career options possible for an individual after successfully completing the course.

The Diploma has been designed as per the recommendations of Electronics Sector skills Council of India (ESSCI) and the contents have been aligned with Qualification Packs (QPs)/National Occupational Standards (NOSs) framed by ESSCI.
