On this day 19th September, 1986 the MeitY (erstwhile DoE), Government of Maharashtra (through Marathwada Development Corporation(MDC) and Dr. B.A. Marathwada University, Aurangabad jointly set-up NIELIT (erstwhile CEDT) at Aurangabad. Initially, it started functioning from Physics & Math Departments of Dr. BAMU, which gave around 20 Acre land for the development of institute on lease of 99 years. On 22nd December, 1988, the foundation stone of the current premises was laid by Shri K.R. Narayanan, Union Minister of State for Science & Technology, Govt. of India & at a function presided over by Shri K.K.P. Nambiar, Secretary to Govt. of India, Department of Electronics. The first Director of the Centre was Late Dr. Vijay Narayan Pande. In the year 1992 Centre shifted to present building. We are proud that our alumni are working in ISRO, Army, Videocon, Sterlite, Bajaj Auto, L&T to name a few and many of them have established their own enterprises and Industries.
