Scanning and digitization of Birth and Death records of Punjab District

NIELIT Chandigarh (Ropar Campus) is an eminent organisation in the field of Electronics and Information technology and it is a brand in itself It was well known as the Regional Computer Centre (RCC)

Objective:

The objective of this project is to digitize the death and birth records of Punjab state for issuance of Birth/Death/ not availability certificates, Addition of name of child in birth Certificates and correction in birth/ death certificates.

Currently this is implemented on pilot basis for two districts namely Patiala and S.B.S. Nagar. The digitization process has three phases

• In First Phase, data is scanned by Computer Operators and entered by Data-Entry Operators in two languages English and Punjabi.

•  In Second Phase, Quality Check is done by NIELIT in which whole data is rechecked and edited if any wrong data is entered.

• In Third phase, quality analysis is done by staff of civil Surgeon Office of Patiala and S.B.S. Nagar.  In this phase 5% of each register data is evaluated and stored for further processing if needed.

Salient Features:

• The End User can get his/her death/birth certificate easily.

• The issuance procedure of death/birth certificate for end user become convenient.

• Before digitization data is stored in paper registers which are in very bad shape. By digitization data has become paperless.

• The searching of data for issuing death/birth certificate will become easier as compared to searching of data in paper registers.
