Course Preamble

The digital space has witnessed major transformations in the last couple of years and as per industry experts would continue to evolve itself. The latest entrant to the digital space is the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT can also be defined as interplay for software, telecom and electronic hardware industry and promises to offer tremendous opportunities for many industries.

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), fed by sensors soon to number in the trillions, working with intelligent systems in the billions, and involving millions of applications, the Internet of Things will drive new consumer and business behavior that will demand increasingly intelligent industry solutions, which, in turn, will drive trillions of dollars in opportunity for IT industry and even more for the companies that take advantage of the IoT.

The number of Internet-connected devices (12.5 billion) surpassed the number of human beings (7 billion) on the planet in 2011, and by 2020, Internet-connected devices are expected to number between 26 billion and 50 billion globally

To better compete in the global market, successful companies are finding that investments in hardware and software are no longer enough. Human elements with specialized engineering and design skills have become the essential part of the equation.

Embedded systems are normally built around Microcontrollers, Sensor networks,  and IT & Networking. This IoT course focuses on Embedded Programming with C on ARM Microcontrollers, Embedded Operating Systems, Wireless Sensor Networks along with IoT protocols , Networking and data analytic basics.

Course Objective

To mould fresh electronics engineers and to retrain working engineers into High Caliber IoT application developers by enhancing their knowledge and skills in various hardware and software design aspects of Internet of things(IoT). This course offers a range of topics of immediate relevance to industry and makes the students exactly suitable for industries engaged in IoT System development. This course is also an excellent preparation for those wishes to engage in application research in this rapidly developing area. Also the course offers the idea of how to develop IoT products specific to Indian needs in the domains of agriculture, health, water quality, natural disasters, transportation, security, automobile, supply chain management, smart cities, automated metering and monitoring of utilities, waste management, Oil & Gas) etc

Course Outcome

On completion of the Course, the Participants shall get

  • Exposure with different families and architectures of Internet of things and  tools such as ARM Microcontrollers, Embedded operating systems, Wireless sensor networks, IoT architecture and protocols etc.
  • Expertise required to design any IoT products  (H/w or S/w or both) based on any of the above devices.
  • Understanding of  data analytics and  Cloud  concepts required  for IoT industry.

Location & How to Reach
NIELIT Calicut is located very near to NIT (REC) campus and is about 22Kms from the Calicut (Kozhikode) city. A number of buses [To NIT via Kunnamangalam] are available from “Palayam Bus Stand or KSRTC Bus Stand”. Our stop is called “Panthrand”(12th mile) & is one stop before NIT. The bus fare is Rs.17/- from Calicut City to NIELIT and is on the right side.

The Calicut (Kozhikode) is well connected by Rail, Road and Air form different parts of the country. The climatic conditions in Calicut are perhaps one of the best in India throughout the year. The maximum and minimum temperatures range between 35 and 20os. The cool breeze further adds the comfort.
