NIELIT , the educational arm of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India is envisioned to bring the most updated industry relevant computer education, within the reach of the masses in the areas of Information, Electronics and Communication Technology (IECT).
Realising the wide gap in the availability of quality computer professionals to meet India's ambitious leadership plans in software exports, NIELIT has revolutionized computer knowledge dissemination by offering its meticulously prepared curriculum through the non-formal sector. A unique feature of the curriculum is horizontal entry to students from non-accredited institutes, so a student with a certain minimum level of computer knowledge need not start at the foundation level.
As on date NIELIT has 35 centres all over the country , out of which 18 centres , including 10 extension centres are in the North East ,with each state capital having one centre. These centres has been pursuing the cause of skill development in IECT areas through various short and long term courses amongst the youths of the region so that they are at par with the rest of the country in terms of skilling themselves for job opportunities , entrepreneurship and higher education. A course on digital marketing has been launched which will provide marketing opportunities for local products , mainly from village level cottage industries, which will provide impetus to rural economy. Infrastructural enhancements are being made for connectivity (NKN , OFC ) , e-Districts , CSCs which will facilitate e-Governance , e-Transactions , digital literacy , etc. in the NE region.
