NIELIT Jorhat EC, Ministry of Electronics & IT, Govt. of India joined the nation by celebrating National Sports Day 2023 and hosted a series of week-long sports activities in its permanent campus at Rowriah from 21nd August to 29th August. The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Sports as an enabler for an inclusive and fit society’. As a part, NIELIT Jorhat organised various sports competition like Shot put, Discus throw, Running, Arm Wrestling, Carrom, Bedminton Chess etc. Ms. Monita Wahengbam, Scientist-D/ ECIC of Jorhat EC graced the closing ceremony and handed over the prizes to the winners of different competitions. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Wahengbam encouraged all the participants for their enthusiasm for the event. She highlighted the importance of sports in the overall development of human personality and mentioned that sports event organised at the centre as a reminder of the importance of sports in promoting a healthy lifestyle, teamwork, discipline, and national pride. In this week long competitions, all the sports events were conducted as per the official rules laid down by the concerned sports federation which was coordinated by Dr. Rana Sharma, National Athlete / Official of Athletic Federation of India and an employee of NIELIT. This year, Mitchell Keith Douglas and Tanushree Kalita were crowned the best male and female athlete respectively.
