NIELIT permanent campus in Gangtok, Sikkim - Foundation Stone laying by Hon'ble Union Minister of E&IT and L&J, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad and Shri A K Ghatani, Health Minister, Govt. of Sikkim

Hon'ble Union Minister of E&IT and L&J, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad and Shri A K Ghatani, Minister for Health Care, Human Services and Family Welfare, Information and Public Relations and Printings Department, Govt. of Sikkim laid the foundation stone of NIELIT permanent campus in Gangtok, Sikkim during the release of "Vision Document for Digital North East 2022" on 11-August-2018 at Guwahati, Assam. Shri A K Ghatani represented the state of Sikkim for the release of "Vision Document for Digital North East 2022".

 

The permanent campus of NIELIT, Gangtok under Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), Government of India is coming up under the Union Cabinet approved project “Development of North Eastern Region by enhancing training/education in IECT area”. With the administrative approval of Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY), NIELIT Gangtok centre was set up in 2010 and is operating presently from its office at Indira Bypass road, Sichey, Gangtok. Over the last few years, NIELIT-Gangtok, the training arm of Ministry of Electronics and IT has been conducting IT training programs for the Government employees as well as skill development programs for the students and general youths of the State. One of it’s national level course called the Basic Computer Course (BCC) has been adopted by Government of Sikkim as an additional eligibility for recruitments in Sikkim Government since December 2011. NIELIT Gangtok has imparted training to over 2000 trainees on various short term courses including customized courses for various cadres of Sikkim Government in addition to various services offered to Sikkim Government towards capacity building and e-Governance initiatives from its temporary premises at Sichey.    

 

Now with the permanent campus coming up at Pakyong about 10 kms away from the upcoming airport, Sikkim will have a state of art infrastructure offering various formal and non-formal skill development courses in IT/IT enabled service sectors leading to employments of the youth.
